WHO IS GOD?
PSALM 149:1-2
PSALM 149:1-2 NKJ
1 Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
And His praise in the assembly of saints.
2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
This psalm starts with praise. The Psalms were used as a hymn book of sorts for the Jewish people. The priest would turn to Psalm 149 and read, and people would recite it back. Many Jews had memorized a good portion of the Psalms.
The phrases that stood out to me were "let Israel rejoice in their Maker." and "let the children of Zion be joyful in their King." In their praise, they focused on who God was to them. He was acknowledged as their Maker and their King. There is a powerful truth here, God made us. He is the Creator of all things. We did not rise from the slime to become primitive beasts that would later become man. Nope. God is our Maker, and we were created by Him, in His image, with the intent that we may glorify Him.
And God is our King. He is the Supreme authority in our lives. We are ultimately accountable to Him for what we do here on earth.
We did not rise on our own we were created by an all-powerful eternal God Maker of the heavens and earth. And we owe Him our allegiance and our best. He is our Maker and King.
APPLICATION
We are surrounded by a world literally swimming in pride. Many of the philosophies of today have no place for God. Man is the ultimate being accountable to no one.
But we know in our hearts this is not true. This world was not a random act. It was created. We did not evolve; we were created. We serve an all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal loving God who is our Maker and our King.
Take a few minutes today to think about who God really is and then thank Him. We would not even be here if it were not for Him!
PRAYER
You are my God. My Maker and my King - You have made me, and I pledge my best to You!
