WE NEED TO BE QUICK TO BELIEVE
LUKE 24:25-27 NKJV
25 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
This was the response from Jesus to the two men He was walking with.
They were on the road to Emmaus on the day that Jesus was raised from the dead. Jesus joined them in their walk, but they did not know it was Him. Their eyes were restrained. I am not quite sure what that means, but evidently, Jesus could appear differently after His resurrection.
In any case, these two followers of Jesus were sad. They were sad because Jesus had been their hope for a powerful Israel. That He would make Israel free and relevant once again. And they were sad because they did not believe the account of the women who said He was alive.
In verse 25, we see Jesus' response to their sadness. He said they were foolish and slow of heart. Hardly comforting words, but Jesus expected them to believe what the prophets had spoken in the scriptures regarding the Christ. Jesus was not letting these men off the hook.
He started with the scriptures written by Moses. And went through all the prophets had written regarding Himself.
Jesus did not reveal Himself to these two followers physically. He would later open their eyes, but He started with the scriptures. Jesus explained to them the scriptures first.
After their eyes were opened (vs. 31-32), they knew it was Jesus. But they said something interesting. They said when He was talking with them and opening the scriptures during their walk together that their hearts were burning. Their heart knew what their eyes and head did not.
APPLICATION:
Our walk with the Lord should start with the scriptures.
We typically do not see Jesus, but we can be quick to believe all that is written concerning who He is.
And we can take it one step further and be quick to believe all that is written concerning who we are because of our connection to Him.
Quick to believe we are new creations. Quick to believe in the Holy Spirit, the greater One living in us. Quick to believe we are much loved children of the living God.
PRAYER:
Lord I am quick to believe all that is written regarding You. And all that is written regarding who I now am because of You. I believe!
