WAYS TO STRONGER FAITH

ROMANS 4:19-20 NKJ

ROMANS 4:19-20 NKJ
19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

OBSERVATION:

Abraham is called the father of our faith. He had a faith that was based on relationship with God, not keeping a set of laws.

God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have a baby boy. That all sounds great until we consider that he was close to one hundred years old, and she was ninety.

But we have a God who creates galaxies, so this was not too hard for Him.

It was harder for Abraham and Sarah. Both actually laughed at the initial promise. But both made an adjustment.

Abraham was able to look beyond his body and Sarah's body. Both were in a serious nonproductive state. But Abraham did not focus on the problems. He focused on the promise.

And Abraham stayed connected to God's promise. He did not disconnect through doubt and unbelief but was made stronger in his faith as he gave glory to God.

Abraham kept his focus and kept his connection with God. And Abraham and Sarah had that baby boy. The baby was named Isaac. Isaac means laughter. And it was God who had the last laugh!

APPLICATION:

There are things we can do to get stronger in our faith.

We have to focus on God's word more than we do on our problems. We start this process by reading the Bible and also keying in on those promises that we want to see in our lives. Without God's word, we have no basis for our faith. Remember, Abraham started his faith journey with a word, a promise from God.

Then, we must stay connected to God and His promises. The best way to do this is by giving God glory. This will be our praise and thanksgiving. The connection we have with God is up to us.

Although these principles sound easy, it's a lifestyle change. Spending time with God in His word is almost counter-cultural today. And yet spiritual principles are timeless. They are not dependent on culture.

There are ways our faith can grow stronger. We can be like Abraham. Through faith in God, we can defy the odds and have the last laugh.
