THE WISDOM AND KINDNESS PLAN

PROVERBS 31:26

PROVERBS 31:26 NKJV
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.

OBSERVATION:

This proverb is an interesting shift from the other 30 proverbs.

Here we see King Lemuel's mother speaking into his life. Some scholars believe this was a pet name of Solomon from his mother, Bathsheba. And if that is accurate, her first words were a warning not to give his strength to women. Too many foreign wives turned the heart of Solomon and led to his downfall. He should have listened to momma.

In verses 10-31, we see the qualifications of a virtuous wife. There are two ways to look at this list.

One way is the literal qualifications of what makes a virtuous wife. It is interesting to note that charm and beauty are not on the list. Those two features are designated as very temporary and deceitful. The scriptures put a much greater emphasis on character.

The other way to view this list is as qualifications for the Body of Christ, which is the bride of Christ. So, either way, we can learn from the list.

One verse for today provides a good goal for us in the coming year. What will we do with our words? We make goals and resolutions in so many different areas, but our words are vital to determining what kind of year we will have.

We want wisdom coming out of our mouths in 2023. Wisdom that builds others up and imparts grace. Wisdom concerning our own lives. Speaking negatively about our lives is not wise.

Since wisdom is our objective, God's wisdom in His word becomes the template we use. The more His word is our basis for speaking, the more wisdom will come out of our mouths.

And add to wisdom the law of kindness. We all want people to be kind to us, so go ahead and plant a lot of kindness seeds in 2023. One thing about kind words, you do not have to retract them or apologize for them.

So, a great goal for 2023 is that our words will be filled with wisdom and kindness. Words matter. Let's make them even more valuable in the upcoming year!

PRAYER:

Lord may the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight!
