THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LORD

PSALM 145:8-9

PSALM 145:8-9 NKJ
8 The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all,
And His tender mercies are over all His works.

OBSERVATION:

If you had never met my wife Joy, I would be the one who could tell you about her. I don't know everything, but after 40 years of marriage, I can give you the truth about Joy.

If you were waiting for some startling revelation like she can shoot a 9mm pistol accurately from either hand, it's not going to happen. No way I ever teach her to shoot. I value my life.

But if I tell you she is sweet, kind, and prays a lot, you would most likely believe me. I know.

When it comes to the Lord Jesus and our Father God, people have said much about who they are. And much is incorrect.

The scriptures provide the most accurate revelation of who God is. And the scriptures are where we go to determine truth. Too many have looked at the circumstances around them and derived the wrong portrayal of our good God.

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion. Not harsh, cold, and uncaring.

The Lord is slow to anger and great in mercy. Not quick-tempered and punitive.

"The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works." This flies in the face of how some describe the Lord. If He was not this way, many of us would have been in deep trouble a long time ago, But the scriptures tell the real story.

APPLICATION:

To hear some people, you would think just the opposite of what these two verses say. They have likened God to the one who is causing heartache and misery. The one who is hurting families and little children.

Maybe it's because people feel the need to place blame somewhere when things go wrong. But when you blame God, you make it very difficult to receive His gracious, compassionate goodness in your life.

The writer of this Psalm 145 was David. And it was David who had such a powerful revelation of how good God is. And it was David who was able to overcome a multitude of problems because he trusted a gracious God who is slow to anger and great in mercy.

The truth about the Lord is vital to us in establishing a strong foundation in these last days.

PRAYER:

Lord I believe what the scriptures say about You. I believe You are truly good!
