THE BIG REVEAL

JOHN 4:25-26

JOHN 4:25-26 NKJ
25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things."
26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

When Joy and I were having our children, actually she did the heavy lifting on that job; there were no reveal parties. The technology was simply not to the place where doctors were certain, so the big reveal was when the actual birth took place.

These two verses from today's reading are an amazing reveal on the part of Jesus. He is talking with the famous woman by the well. She is a Samaritan woman who has had five husbands and is now living with a guy she is not married to.

Who would have thought a Samaritan woman was thinking about the Messiah. The Samaritans and the Jews literally hated each other. They had big religious differences about worship and the scriptures. Most Jewish travelers would walk miles out of their way just to keep from going through Samaria. And, if a Jewish man was facing Jerusalem, Samaritans would turn their backs on him. This is not Texas vs. Texas A&M; this is ugly religious pride and prejudice.

And yet Jesus is talking with this woman. And she, even with all her issues, has a spiritual hunger. So much so that Jesus reveals to her that He is the Messiah. We don't have any record of Jesus ever revealing Himself to anyone this way. And yet, Jesus reveals Himself to her.

It is plain to see that Jesus was not very conventional during His earthly ministry. He talks with women, eats with sinners, and is kind to the ones religion passed on.

APPLICATION:

Jesus is still the same today. He is not looking for the rich, or the beautiful, or the ones who have the most followers. He still reveals Himself to anyone who has a hungry heart and a desire to know Him. He truly is the One who is no respecter of status or prestige.

This means anyone can have a close relationship with Him today. Anyone with a heart hunger can be His disciple and have Him revealed in their lives.

Jesus said that if we love Him, we will keep His commands, and He will love us and manifest Himself to us. (John 14:21) Now that's a big reveal.

PRAYER:

I do love You, Lord, and desire to know You more. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me this year in a greater way.
