PLEASING GOD
PSALM 69:30-32
PSALM 69:30-32 NKJ
30 I will praise the name of God with a song,
And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bull,
Which has horns and hooves.
32 The humble shall see this and be glad;
And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.
One sign of a good relationship is a desire to please the other person.
Children often show that desire to please their parents, and it's a trait that often stays with them throughout their lives. Have you ever heard an adult talking about wanting to do something that pleases a parent?
Here David tells us two things we can do to please God. Praise Him with a song and magnify Him with thanksgiving.
David tells us that these two things were greater than offering an animal sacrifice. And that the humble see these actions and are glad.
It is interesting to note that these instructions come at the end of a psalm where David is declaring his problems to the Lord and asking for God's help. David, once again, shows us it's not how you start; it's how you finish. David seems to always wind up on the positive side.
APPLICATION
This psalm gives us a good pattern. You may have had a difficult day filled with bad news and problems. How are you going to finish the day?
I want to make sure I finish strong not just in my life but practice finishing strong on an everyday basis. So I can praise God with a song and magnify Him, make Him bigger in my life, by offering thanksgiving.
And these things will please the Lord. When we praise Him and give Him thanks, in essence, we are saying that God is bigger and greater than any problem we face. Our simple faith in Him pleases Him. He loves us more than any earthly parent, and when we express our love and confidence in Him, it pleases Him. What a great thought. We can please God. We just lift up our eyes and give Him the praise He so richly deserves and thank Him for all He has done and is doing.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I praise You and thank You with all my heart. You are more powerful and bigger than anything facing me. May my life be pleasing to You.
