HOW NOT TO BE LAZY
PROVERBS 26:13-16 NKJV
PROVERBS 26:13-16 NKJV
13 The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road!
A fierce lion is in the streets!"
14 As a door turns on its hinges,
So does the lazy man on his bed.
15 The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl;
It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth.
16 The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes
Than seven men who can answer sensibly.
OBSERVATION:
Proverbs was written before being politically correct was a thing. Plus, Solomon, the author of the Proverbs, was the king. And kings are not worried about being canceled.
In Proverbs 26, the subjects of foolish people and lazy people are discussed. And in typical Proverbs style, no punches are pulled.
So instead of dogging the lazy person, we will flip the script and discuss how not to be lazy. But the message's end result is still the same. The Lord is not a fan of lazy.
In order not to be lazy, do not make excuses. A lion in the streets is a fairly ridiculous excuse. But an excuse is still an excuse and to divert responsibility for a negative outcome. So, because we are not lazy people, excuses are not part of our lives.
In order to not be a lazy person, we need to be doing the things that produce results. A door turning on its hinges is going nowhere. A person in bed is not making progress. I know we need sleep, but sleep is not the number one goal. We are not lazy because we get going.
We are responsible for feeding ourselves. Lazy people are too tired to do the things that are necessary for self-care. Do the things that produce strength. This can particularly apply to spiritual feeding. Because we are not lazy, we feed our spirit on God's word, good books, and messages that strengthen our hearts. We are not too tired to do what is best for our own development.
In order to not be labeled a lazy person, we are willing to listen to wise counsel. We know we do not have all the wisdom we need. We are not of the opinion that we are smarter than everyone. People with godly wisdom can speak into our lives, and we listen. God's written word speaks into our lives, and we make course corrections.
APPLICATION:
No excuses. Get moving. Do what produces strength. Listen to wise counsel.
Easier said than done, but we are not lazy people. This is how we roll.
