NONE OF THESE THINGS MOVE ME

ACTS 20:22-24

ACTS 20:22-24 NKJ
22 And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Paul is an outstanding example of a fully committed believer.  His dedication to finish the mission assigned to him by the Lord is a motivation to us all.  And it's not as if Paul had it easy.  This brother endured some amazing hardships.  The kind of thing that makes you shake your head and think, "I don't know if I could handle that!"
In this passage, we get a glimpse into Paul's mindset, and it's a strong mindset.  In referring to the difficulties coming his way, Paul declares they don't move him.  Yeah, they are going to happen, but no biggie.  Then he shares a truth that pulls it all together.  I don't count my life dear to myself.  Paul was not trying to protect his life; he was intent on finishing his race and fulfilling his ministry. Talk about strong!

APPLICATION

Paul's mentality is an aspirational goal of mine.  I would like to be able to say that things don't move me, and I don't count my life as dear to myself.  I am not there yet, but it sure gives me something to shoot for.
When our sense of mission and purpose in God's kingdom gets bigger, the things involving our life don't matter as much.  And when we are less concerned about us, we are less moved and thrown off by the challenges we face.
I believe as we continue to grow in the Lord, we'll be less and less tossed around by the cares of this life.  The stronger we get in Christ, the less motivated we are to protect our lives.  And problems - no biggie!

PRAYER

Dear Father, help me grow stronger in Christ so that I may fulfill my mission and purpose on the earth and glorify You.
