Hearing Him For Yourself
Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.” John 4:42 NKJV
John 4:39-42
Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
John 4:42 NKJV
We see a progression in this passage of scripture. The Samaritans believed because of the word of the woman who told them about Jesus.
They asked Jesus to stay, and He did for two days. That had to baffle the disciples because the Jews avoided the Samaritans at best and despised them at worst.
Then this city of Samaria told Jesus they believed, not because of the woman, but they heard Him for themselves. And they believed He was the Savior of the world.
APPLICATION:
These Samaritans had a hunger to hear Jesus. They urged Him to stay and talk to them. This resulted in them coming to their own personal belief as to who He was.
As we stir ourselves up not just to hear what someone else says about Jesus and His word, it results in a much deeper belief. So, it’s not just what your parents have said about Jesus. Or a famous YouTube preacher or your closest Christian friend. It is hearing Him through His Word, the Bible, for yourself.
