GOD'S ORDER AND BLESSINGS

DEUTERONOMY 6:3-9 NKJV

DEUTERONOMY 6:3-9 NKJV
3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—'a land flowing with milk and honey.'
4 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

OBSERVATION:

The first generation of the nation of Israel that came out of Egypt never went into the land God had promised them. So these words of Moses are to the second generation. They would be the ones to possess the promised land.

As you read the book of Deuteronomy, you'll see a repeated theme. Love and serve God, obey Him and His ways, and things will go well.

This is the basis of Moses' instruction in chapter six. Fear, respect, and reverence God and obey Him, and blessings will carry down to children and grandchildren.

The Lord is one, not many. The three in one, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And there is absolutely no room for any other gods.

They were to love God wholly. Heart, soul, and strength. God was to occupy the top priority and place of honor and value.

God's words were to be in their heart. His word was to be a part of their lives to the extent that it came out of them.

First, the nation of Israel was to be very intentional regarding teaching God's word to their children. Don't hope they will just "get it"; teach them consistently.

And God's words and commands were to be such an important part of their lives that they would talk about it. Morning, noon, and night they were to be discussing God's words.

The idea of signs upon your hands and frontlets between your eyes conveys the idea that God's word was to be the subject of their focus. They were not to forget it. Writing it on doorposts and gates were reminders not to forget God's word when they went out and came back in.

APPLICATION:

The same principles7 that applied to Israel then applies to God's people today.

We are to love God above all else. This includes family, interests, and our own desires.

We are to value His words above the words of friends, experts, and family. We must teach the children God's word. And we must put His word in our hearts and speak of it on a consistent basis.

Extreme? No. Extremely blessed? Absolutely.
