ANYONE NEED DIRECTION?

PROVERBS 3:5-6

PROVERBS 3:5-6 NKJ
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

  Here are two short, simple, and impactful verses.  Joy leads our staff prayer every Tuesday morning and has the staff memorize and meditate on verse five.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  This indicates that trusting God, faith in God, is a matter of the heart, not the head.

Trusting in your heart means we, at times, will be at odds with our head.  Our understanding is so used to calling the shots that it can be a shock to put it on the back burner.  Not leaning on our own understanding does not mean we do not use our heads. It's just that our heart trust in the Lord has the last word.

Coupled with verse five is verse six.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.  Following this verse will require that we not lean on our own understanding.  We have to trust the Lord to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways. It's safe to say that the more we trust, the more we acknowledge.

APPLICATION:

So here we go.  Acknowledge the Lord in all our ways.  So any area we want His direction, we acknowledge Him.  Lord, what about this?  Should I go in this direction?

Wait Alan, God gave me a brain.  He doesn't expect me to acknowledge Him in the little areas.  He expects me to figure it out.

Well, I did not write these verses.  And I understand that beginning to acknowledge Him may seem cumbersome.  But there have been many, many times when I just figured it out myself that the outcome was less than desirable.

And remember Jesus didn't "figure it out."  He was directed by the Holy Spirit.  Before you tell me, "But that was Jesus," keep in mind Jesus is our example.  And Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to help us and guide us into all truth (John 16:13).  I know I need help and direction.  So I must acknowledge Him.  The more I acknowledge, the more I'm directed.  And I trust with all my heart that God's direction is better than what I can do on my own.

PRAYER:

Teach me, Lord, to acknowledge You more.  I trust You and desire Your direction in every area of my life.
