A WAY TO STAY ENCOURAGED
PSALM 27:13-14
PSALM 27:13-14 NKJ
13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
14 Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!
OBSERVATION:
One of the reasons we become discouraged is believing that the future does not look good.
Of course, there are many other things that impact us but what we expect is a powerful motivator.
Psalm 27 is a Psalm of David that starts strong and carries a victorious tone throughout all 14 verses. This is one of the Psalms where you could do a devotion on literally every verse.
The last two verses have always spoken to me. And verse 13 in particular.
I would have lost heart. Losing heart is not a good thing. It is our heart, which in this case, indicates our inner courage and strength, that keeps us in life's fight.
With all the trauma and drama in David's life, he would be considered an expert in dealing with difficult situations.
Forgotten by his father. Marginalized by his brothers. Hunted down by a king. Always fighting battles. Family kidnapped and his home burnt. This guy had seen more than his share of trouble.
And yet he did not lose heart. He would have, but he believed something good. He believed he would see the goodness of God in his life. Not when he went to heaven but here in the land of the living.
Believing something good is coming our way from God is a sure way to stay encouraged.
So, when David says, wait on the Lord, in verse 14. He is not waiting to see if anything good will come. He believes he will see it. So, as he waits on God and stays positive, God strengthens his heart.
Staying encouraged and staying strong. Two very good positions to adopt in a dark negative world.
APPLICATION:
A great question to ask is: What do I believe I will see in this life? God's goodness, or you never know? I choose to believe I will see the goodness of the Lord. I believe God is good, and He is good to me.
These are great verses to memorize and add to your life.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father. I believe You are a rewarder, and I'll see Your goodness in my life.
