A GOOD QUESTION

PSALM 64:10

PSALM 64:10 NKJ
10 The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him.
And all the upright in heart shall glory.

OBSERVATION:

So here is a question for you. On a scale of 1-10, one being very low, ten very high. Where do you score yourself as to gladness? Is your gladness level a one or a four? Is it an eight or nine?

If this question seems a bit random, it is in keeping with this verse in Psalms 64. The first eight verses talk about David being harassed by the wicked. He speaks of their evil ways and asks God to intervene and deliver him.

And then we see David bail out of that discourse regarding the wicked and talk about God's works and the posture of the righteous.

When we see righteous in the scriptures, it can mean our position with being right in God's sight and living right before God. David is declaring that the righteous will be glad in the Lord. David knew that the key to being glad was an internal position. Not what was taking place around him. So even though David was having trouble with wicked, he was still glad in the Lord and trusting in the Lord.

David almost always seems to wind up on the positive side. His psalms may start with a sad complaint, but he winds up in a good place. So, with all these problems from the wicked, David is glad and trusting in the Lord and giving Him glory.

David appears to be a man who scores high on the gladness scale.

APPLICATION:

It's not how you start; it's how you finish. That seems like a well worn axiom, but it's well worn because it's true.

You may have started your Christian walk in a sad state, but it's not over.

You may have had a life characterized by gloom and sadness, but it does not have to stay that way.

When we shift our focus to the Lord and off our current troubles, the gladness level rises. Our reason for gladness is found in God and our trust in Him. If we trust He is good and He will help us, we have a reason to be glad. We can be glad if we trust that He will never abandon us and has good things for us.

And more good news, if you are low on the gladness scale, you are not stuck. You can be gladder.
